For brands Garments Collections Campaigns Objects Independent / London / Working with factories worldwide

I work with brands on the product itself, from the first sketch through to the finished piece coming out of the factory. Most of my work is garments, but I also design the objects that sit around a brand, like decks, lamps, building sets and packaging.

I work directly, without an agency in between, so you get a designer who has drawn the flats, written the tech packs and signed off the bulk. I was a designer and then Head Designer at Mertra, I run my own product brand, DesignByChaz, and I've done paid campaign work for Foot Locker EU and Nike.

Product and Garment Design

This is the core of what I do. I take a single piece or an entire category from the brief through to a tech pack your factory can build from, covering outerwear, tracksuits, denim, knitwear, jersey, accessories and bags.

  • Concept and research
  • Sketches and colour-ups
  • Technical flats, front, back and side
  • Fabric, trim and construction callouts
  • Full tech pack with measurements and grading
  • Sample comments and fit rounds
  • Bulk approval

Works well for streetwear and sportswear brands, footwear and retail partners moving into apparel, and any brand without a garment designer in house.

Collection Design

Collection design is about the range rather than the piece. I plan the hero pieces and the basics that pay for them, hold everything in one colour story, and draw and pack every style so the whole drop lands together.

  • Range plan and tiering
  • Colour story and fabric direction
  • Sets and cross-category matching
  • Line sheets
  • Tech packs for every style
  • Sampling schedule and factory liaison

Suited to brands planning a seasonal drop, a capsule collaboration or their first apparel range.

Creative Direction

Creative direction for product campaigns. I develop the concept, handle casting, styling and locations, direct the shoot and see the edit through to delivery, working with photographers and videographers I trust.

  • Campaign concept and treatment
  • Casting and styling
  • Locations and shoot direction
  • Working with photographers and videographers
  • Stills and reels, edited and delivered
  • Product placed in culture: skate, football, sneakers

For footwear and retail brands, product launches and collaborations that need a story built around the object.

Products Beyond Clothing

I also design the objects and hard goods that carry a brand off the body, and I develop them the same way I do garments, from sketch through sourcing and manufacturing to the packaging they arrive in.

  • Skate decks and fingerboards
  • Figures, lamps and homeware
  • Building sets and collectables
  • Balls and sporting goods
  • Packaging and unboxing
  • Sourcing and factory management

For brands that want to drop more than apparel, whether that's a collaboration or a limited object for a launch or an event.

How a project runs

01

Brief

We start with a conversation about what you need, who it's for and when you need it by, and I come back with a scope and a fixed quote.

02

Concept

I research, sketch and colour up a few directions, and we settle on one together before anything technical gets drawn.

03

Development

I draw the technical flats and callouts and build the tech pack, so your factory, or one from my network, has everything it needs to sample.

04

Production

I comment on samples, run the fit rounds and approve bulk, so what ships is what we drew.

If you have a product, a range or a campaign in mind, I'd like to hear about it.
